May 15th – A taste of Portland

Sadly, every part of my body was in awe and shock from the longest trip I’ve ever taken to get to Portland. So during the first couple of days in Portland, I was very sans camera.
I will give it a poor attempt and google good photos of the things we ate and experienced.
We were woken up by an early bird Gabe, a good friend of Dan’s, and hurriedly got ready to meet him for breakfast. Our choice this morning – Waffles.

And boy were we glad! Waffle Window had a line of people already patiently waiting to experience some good waffle-eatin’. I had something from the savoury menu, and Dan had something sweet. I can’t for the life of me remember what we had exactly. But here’s their glorious menu nonetheless.

Then we went to the Portland Market. This market has to be by FAR the best market I’ve been to. There was street food, gourmet food. And from Mexican to Asian, it had everything a food lover would want.

Then there was music, and hippie fashion. Even though we were only there for a brief hour or two, I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the odours.
After walking around for 2 hours, we went to a local cupcake bakery Saint Cupcake.
Saint CupcakeWe chose to taste everything they had on Friday. And they were all very good. My favourite was the red velvet.
Once we packed in the cupcakes into the box, we ventured around some more before taking off to get to Dan’s hometown, La Grande.

On the way, we stopped over at Vista House to enjoy the view over the dangerous cliff.Vista House

Isn’t this just the prettiest sight or what?
Next stop: Multanomah

One last stop at a cute little tunnel that hasn’t been in use for a few centuries at least.

After those few stops, we were on the road again. The road that stretches out into the vastness of America.
The land where it takes at least 4 hours to get to the next town.
On the way to La Grande Windmills
We arrived in La Grande at night. So the sight seeing was definitely over.
We stumbled into the dark house with a few of our bags and fell asleep somewhere in the room.
