May 28th – The Family Cabin in Ione

The weather is driving everyone bonkers. When I came to the states in May, I was expecting the sun, the tan, and the sweat. But Dan's cheap heater has been my best friend for a few days now.
Anyway, the time has come, and we packed up for a trip to stay with Dan’s family up in Ione for the weekend.

It takes about 5 - 6 hours from La Grande to the Barrett Cabin, and here are some photos we took along the way.

And then we arrived at the cabin, going down the long driveway, past Will’s lovely warning sign.
Dan's parents had prepared the little cabin for us. Notice their welcoming gift for us - 2 bottles of wine.

After a small snack, we left to go sight seeing around Ione, and also to pick up a few things for Deb.
On the way to the groceries, I got to see the lake, and a few local (very local!) shops. You wonder about those small towns where everyone knows each other by their first names that you see in movies until you’ve been to a place like this.

We came back with some sausages to cook on the camp fire. Mmm!

After lunch, we went for more walks, and got to chill out until Deb and Will rocked out their kitchen tools and started cooking delicious stuff!

I was a bit too camera happy, but it was picture-perfect, and I happen to be a city girl. This was all amazing to me. Just look at that super large Budweiser!

After dinner, we spent the rest of the evening talking and relaxing. It was a great way to end such an amazing day.

These are before and after shots of the kitchen. We thought it was funny that when Deb was in the kitchen, everything's out in the open, spilled, smeared, expired all over the counter.
